Graphic Novels for Kids

The Palm Beach County library system has really been beefing up our graphic novel collection over the past few years. Our collection development staff has kept up to speed on the latest trades from the big names and indie titles.

Batman is by far my favorite comic book hero, but some of his stories can be pretty dark (ie adult language and content). It’s not something people always think about when they remember reading Batman or Detective Comics as a kid. Fortunately for our youth patrons, PBCLS has an extensive graphic novel section for them as well.

The Children’s GN section varies in titles from The Avengers to Star Wars, Babymouse to Sherlock Holmes, Coraline to Micky Mouse. We even have non-fiction titles (like The Voyage of the Mayflower) and various biographies (such as Betsy Ross and the American Flag) that can help make learning more interesting for reluctant readers. We are also in the process of ordering a series of Pokemon manga, so keep your eyes open for those in the coming months!

Swing by J 741.5 in the Children’s section for some kid-friendly comics and sign up for the Drawn to Comics newsletter to get updated on the newest graphic novels appearing on our shelves!
